Wedding PR: Just ask

Just a few days ago, I had a great chat with some of my friends in the wedding media- the kind that you need to set aside at least a good two hours for in order to officially catch up. And in that conversation, a friendly reminder emerged. It’s a notion I’ve surely blogged about in one way, shape or form, but deserves a revisit every now and then again.

As our conversation turned to the creative wedding pr measures one can take beyond real wedding submissions, we both had a laugh over the fact that from our experience, some of the great features/guest articles/what have you have come from simply asking. A wedding pro gets an idea, pitches it to the right person and isn’t afraid of potentially hearing no. After all, that tends to be the worst thing that could happen, right?

I ask for things all the time. I ask blogs if they are interested in guest posts by clients on new topics. I ask for features in magazines based on new trends my clients and colleagues are seeing. I asked to guest lecture at universities. I ask my husband if I can paint a part of the refrigerator with chalkboard paint to see how it looks. I don’t always get a “yes,” but there are certainly enough of them to make the effort worthwhile.

So many things never come to fruition because we’re afraid to simply ask for it. If the simple prospect of getting turned down is the only challenge, then what in the world is stopping you?
