Wedding Marketing: Be a Good One
I’ll admit it- I’m terrible at doing the dishes. It may sound like something that is entirely within my control, but I assure you that it’s not.
Time and time again, I give it the old college try and like clockwork, my husband will pull a dirty bowl out of the cupboard, look at me cockeyed and say, “Really? This is your best shot?”
So I’ve quit dishwashing because I’m just no good at it. You can add eating Chicken Pot Pie, walking without falling and good penmanship to the list as well. Just not my strengths.
Now, I stick with what I do know- wedding marketing, wedding pr, Excel spreadsheets, training my cat Bella to fall in love with our new kitten Tigh, not eating Chicken Pot Pie. And when I see a new potential opportunity on the horizon, I ask myself this- Am I really good at all the stuff I claim to be now? My answers is normally “sure but I could be better,” so I continue on and stick to what I do.
The point? We’re not good at everything, plain and simple and it’s far better stick to and better ourselves in our niche than to constantly expand and dive into new project work. Ultimately, it’s counterproductive. If you photograph weddings, then photograph weddings. If you decide to throw in chocolate fountains, writing a book and a photo booth side business, then be sure that your craft doesn’t suffer because of it.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “Whatever you are, be a good one.” The question is- how many things can you as a wedding professional be good at before you end up with a cupboard full of dirty dishes? Metaphorically speaking, of course.
